Role play "Fire emergency"

When my son was 3 years old he developed an interest in fire trucks and firefighters. First, he started playing with toy fire trucks reproducing familiar plots from favourite books and TV series.

Then he began acting like a firefighter. This roleplay was beneficial for enlarging his vocabulary on the topic of putting out the fire.

For the roleplay "Fire emergency" we used:

  1. A block of flat drawn on cardboard.
  2. A felt fire.
  3. A fire extinguisher made from a plastic bottle and wrapped with red duct tape.
  4. A firefighter's hat.
  5. A hose from a corrugated pipe.

A child is equipped as a firefighter. Stick a felt fire on one of the windows. Announce that a house is on fire and turn on the siren. Then tell a child/children:

"Attention, attention, all firefighters! There's a fire in house number 5. Everyone, put on your helmet and take your fire extinguisher. Get on the fire truck and go as fast as you can. Connect hoses to the fire hydrant and spray water onto the flames. Oh, fire is out. Well done! Return to the fire station, clean the equipment and prepare for the next call."

We also attached a hose to a push car and used it as a fire engine. Sometimes Anton put out the fire with a fire extinguisher.

Encourage young learners to comment on their actions: I'm going down the pole', 'I'm in my car', 'Look, the house is on fire' etc. Sometimes we add songs about fire trucks and other activities from 'Firefighting storytime'.

5 movement stories and rhymes for preschoollers

Children need to move all the time. After sitting for a long time, my son starts behaving uncontrollably, resorts to destructive actions and aggression, etc. So when we play quiet games or learn for some time, I always try to make him move for at least 5 minutes every half an hour. It can be energetic games, action songs, or movement stories. I will share 5 of our most favourite movement stories and rhymes.

Letter formation activities

I started teaching my son phonics when he was 3. It has been really challenging so I tried to incorporate lots of games and crafts. To help him memorize letter formation I use different creative ways.
