Role play "Vet clinic"
Children like treating people and animals. During dramatic play, young learners act out real-life situations, stimulate imagination, and practice speech structures in English. In this post, I want to share some useful vocabulary that will help to organize the game. Anton likes reading "Zog" by Julia Donaldson so most of the health problems come from this book.
The vet asks “What’s wrong with you? or How can I help you?” and examines the patient.
I put the list of problems and possible solutions in the table. 3 and 4-year-olds will memorize a limited amount of complaints faster.
Health problems | Treatment |
scratch his knee/leg/arm | have a sticky plaster for… |
throat grows hoarse | to suck a nice soothing peppermint |
have a burn | to apply a stretchy bandage |
have a runny nose | to blow a nose, to put in(place) nose drops |
have a cough | to listen to smb’s chest, to take temperature and give a sirup |
For treating patients we use a typical toy doctor kit. Bandages and plasters are made from soft felt or painter's tape. We use big buttons for pills. If the patient feels really bad, he stays in the hospital ward. The vet gives an injection or puts up a drip.
